Apple kills Lala music service On May 31

Apple will close Lala on May 31, 2010. Lala will no longer accept new users register, existing users can still access before the end of May Lala.

Lala gives users the option of downloading MP3s for 89 cents each or buy a stream-only version of the song for ten cents or an entire album for a dollar or so.

Lala notified its users in an e-mail Friday morning of the shutdown. Apple Inc. spokesman Jason Roth confirmed the plans, but he declined to say whether the Cupertino, Calif., company would resurrect the service under Apple's iTunes brand.

Will Apple be the first company to turn online music subscription services into a sizable business?
