AT&T Drops Unlimited Data Plans for Next iPhone

AT&T has officially delivered: all new AT&T customers who buy an iPad, iPhone, Blackberry or other smartphone and purchase the necessary data plan will have two options: $25 for 2 gigabytes, or $15 for 200 megabytes.

AT&T is phasing out its unlimited data pricing amid growing anticipation for Apple's 4G iPhone.

AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel said up until now, smartphones have had a one-size-fits-all data plan where you pay a certain amount each month regardless of usage. So for iPhone users, that's $30 a month no matter how much data you use. With the new plans, called DataPlus and DataPro, you choose between 200 MB of data for $15 a month with the former and 2 GB of data for $25 a month with the latter.

Of course, by staying on the unlimited plan, customers won't be able to add on tethering service.
