BURLINGTON, Vt. -- Apple's latest high-tech gizmo, the iPhone, was unveiled this month during the annual Macworld Conference and Expo in San Francisco.
But many northern New Englanders won't be able to take advantage of the device which goes on sale in June.
That's because the iPhone will be offered by AT&T's Cingular Wireless, which doesn't maintain a network at all in Vermont, and only in parts of Maine and New Hampshire. Cingular doesn't offer service in many rural parts of the country.
Cingular spokeswoman Kate MacKinnon said the company has no plans to expand in Vermont, at least before 2009.
The iPhone combines an iPod music player, cell phone and full-featured Internet browser.
